Welcome to Turyaga Tea

Why Turyaga?

We select only the best teas from various categories. However, our categories are very diverse so our customers get a wide range of teas. We believe in Quality not Quantity! About the Tea Master It all began in 1983, in the serene plantations of upper Assam. The passion for excellence, whether on the floor of the tea factory, the tea garden, the cricket pitch, the soccer field or the tennis court, was inculcated in the tea plantation. Hard work and perseverance brought success in learning all aspects of tea-making as well as tea-growing. Eight years later, the burning desire to learn how the tea business works, took the tea master to tasting tables and corridors of auction houses all over India, till 1994.

The next step was to swim in the stormy tea cup of life, and learn the ropes of sales and marketing. The next 12 years was all about traveling. From remote Indian villages to the suave booths at Jacob Javit’s Center in New York, to the Big Site in Tokyo, the tea master travelled the world in quest of learning the art of selling and marketing the tea that he once prepared in tea factories of Assam. Along the way, there was an endless list of tea makers, tea tasters, entrepreneurs, designers, brokers, buyers and retailers who enriched the life of the Tea Master, gratitude to the Providence! During the early 2000s, there was a new breed of entrepreneurs who inspired the entire world of tea.

Refinement in packaging design and flavor profiles were the propositions that brought in investments from giants like Starbucks, Coca-Cola and Tatas. The mind-set of the consumer was changing, which gave birth to super-specialty brands. Conversion from the humble tea bag to high quality loose teas commenced a few years ago that put the tea master in an ideal position to pitch in the best gourmet teas from all over the world through the Turyaga pages. After 33 enlightened years, the story of the tea master comes a full circle – he now travels to plantations round the world to pick and choose the best of the best for the discerning consumer!
